Three cold brew makers we chose, by batch size

This is not a ranking, and we have not tested them. Two are pitchers you fill and leave in the fridge; the OXO makes concentrate you dilute. Sums for coffee and water are on the cold brew calculator.

What to look for in a cold brew maker

Cold brew steeps for hours, so what matters is volume (the Hario brews 1000 ml; the Takeya is 2 quarts), filter (mesh keeps grounds out of the pour) and fit (the Takeya listing says it fits most refrigerator doors). Material is a choice: Tritan plastic, glass, or an OXO container with a carafe.

After you buy

Start with the cold brew calculator for coffee, water and dilution, and a coarse grind from the grind size chart. A kitchen scale helps more than a bigger pitcher.
