Three French presses we chose, by material

This is not a ranking, and we have not tested them. Sizes are the listing's, not a mug count: for grams and water see the French press ratio guide.

Glass or steel, and what else matters

Glass lets you watch the brew; steel is not glass, and the Frieling listing describes a double wall. Neither is better for every cook. After material, check size (12 oz is one mug, 32 to 36 oz is three or four) and filter (a single mesh lets fine grounds through; the ESPRO and Frieling list more than one layer).
